Community Education & Empowerment

The culmination of LBACA’s involvement in policy work has brought a strong community voice into the policy making process, resulting in community education and empowerment. Community members have created a strong voice for themselves by participating in the Neighborhood Assessment Team (A-team) and the Health and Housing Group.

Neighborhood Assessment Teams
(A-TEAMS)

The A-teams are part of the collaborative project between LBACA and the University of Southern California (USC). The A-team is comprised of community members who are interested in the health effects of  outdoor air pollution in Long Beach. A-team members are trained in traffic counting, particulate matter (p-trak) monitoring and community assessment. In addition to collecting data in local “hotspots” (areas in the community where pollution is greatest) they present findings to community groups. A-team members also help guide LBACA’s policy work around air pollution.

Health and Housing Group

The Health and Housing group is a collaborative between Community Partners Council (CPC) and LBACA’s active community members. The focus of the group is to provide education and training for community members on local housing advocacy opportunities, landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities and the impact goods movement has on air quality and community health.
